2013, realized

The Hague | The Netherlands

Mauro Parravicini

The renovation of this apartment of the 1950s has been done through a combination of respect for the existing character of the building and freedom to intervene where necessary to realize new spaces for a young family.

Traditional materials and colors have been used in an untraditional way. This results in a fresh, modern, though respectful, living space.

Carrara marble has been used in all wet rooms, and a re-editon of the original kitchen designed by Piet Zwart has been installed in order to re-establish this important link with the history of the building.

A continuous poured polyurethane floor finish is connecting all the living spaces, whilst the entrance area is traditionally finished with fish-bone parquet.

Colors have been inspired by the architecture of the 1950s, and the influence of the nearby Gemeente Museum by Berlage is visible in many choices of this interior.
