Wien Museum NEU
2015, competition
Vienna | Austria
Mauro Parravicini, Marta M. Roy Torrecilla
The competition design for the NEU museum in Vienna has been developed within the strict requirement to preserve the existing building. In order to fit the new, extensive program of demands, two strategical choices have been made: extending the space as much as possible underground, and adding a golden roof allowing a limited extension in height of the building. The golden roof, recalling the language of the viennese secession, creates a contrast with the modern straightforwardness of the white stucco facade of the existing building. A water pond topping the large underground foyer offers a spectacular mirroring effect duplicating the roof on the square.
